بعد أشهر، إثر مغادرة Abigail وJack لـ John، يزور Geddes طالباً مساعدته في تأمين قرض مصرفي من أجل Beecher's Hope. يحضر Angus والده إلى الباب، ويتحدث Geddes مع John عن مشكلاتهما المنزلية الخاصة. يوافق على التوسط له لدى البنك، ويوجه John إلى ابن عمه البعيد Ansel Atherton. وما إن تستقر عائلة John في Beecher's Hope، حتى يطلب David وMrs. Geddes من Duncan وAngus إرسال أثاث قديم إليهم كهدية بمناسبة الانتقال إلى المنزل.
