Relationship System

The Relationship System is a new gameplay feature debuting in Grand Theft Auto VI. It tracks the relationship between Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos and allows players to influence the development of their partnership as partners in crime, while potentially changing the romantic closeness. The Relationship System tracks the relationship between Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos throughout Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson described it as a system separate from the Criminal Profile that allows the player to influence how close Jason and Lucia become. The two characters are required to work together throughout much of the story, but the player can determine whether they develop their relationship as a romantic couple or remain partners in crime. However, Jason and Lucia cannot end their partnership, even if the player does not pursue their romantic relationship. The relationship is developed primarily by spending time together outside of story missions. Activities mentioned by Rockstar include exploring Leonida, doing activities together such as playing pool, mini golf, and kayaking, as well as committing crimes together. Nelson stated that simply progressing through the story and playing missions together may not provide enough time for the relationship to develop, requiring the player to spend additional time together in the open world.
