John Marston entra en la oficina del sheriff de Armadillo, donde Marshal Leigh Johnson se encuentra con Drew MacFarlane. Bonnie MacFarlane ha desaparecido y Drew culpa en parte a John. Un miembro de la banda de Bill Williamson llega con noticias de que tienen cautiva a Bonnie. La banda exige a Norman Deek, encerrado en la cárcel, a cambio de ella. Drew le pide a John que ayude a recuperar a su hija.
Leigh y el Deputy Jonah sacan a Deek de su celda y lo suben a un caballo. John cabalga con los agentes y el prisionero por New Austin hacia Tumbleweed para efectuar el intercambio. A la entrada del pueblo, los hombres de la banda salen a su encuentro, pero abren fuego en vez de liberar a Bonnie. Deek muere en el ataque, y John, Leigh y Jonah luchan para entrar en Tumbleweed.
John se abre paso entre los forajidos que ocupan el pueblo y llega a la puerta donde retienen a Bonnie. Mientras la banda mantiene su posición, Bonnie queda colgada de una cuerda. John elimina a los secuestradores que quedan junto a la horca y la baja cortando la cuerda. Bonnie sobrevive al ahorcamiento y el rescate concluye en Tumbleweed.

Curiosidades
- ◆A sequence similar to this mission appears in the 1968 Clint Eastwood western classic, Hang 'Em High.
- ◆Even though Norman Deek is hanging upside down on deputy Jonah's shoulder, his hat doesn't fall off. This is the same as when he's hogtied on the horse.
- ◆Once the mission is over, you can go back to the entrance to Tumbleweed where Deek was shot and the rope bonds he was tied up with will be floating in mid-air or on the ground nearby.
- ◆It's possible to follow Bonnie and the Marshal when they ride off. As soon as the Mission ends, Immediately get on a horse and simply follow them. The Marshal will dismount with Bonnie at a small camp near Del Lobo Rock. You can't hurt, interact, or frighten either NPC. This may be the only way to view the wounded Bonnie model again. It is possible to kill the horse and hogtie Bonnie or the Marshal.
- ◆It's possible to complete "A Gentle Drive With Friends" before this mission, and thus John should know about Tumbleweed, but even if this is the case, John will still ask Johnson about Tumbleweed, as if he never knew of it.
- ◆Oddly, the sound of the horse at the start of the mission sounds different to NPC's horses and your horse. This might be due to the horse being motion-captured and having live audio recorded.
- ◆The mission is very similar to the Red Dead Online story mission "The Hanging Of Tom Davies," in which the Del Lobo Gang take over Tumbleweed and hangs Marshal Tom Davies to avenge their leader's death. The players have to save him by shooting the rope that he is being hung by. A slight difference between these missions is that in Red Dead Online there are proper gallows that are only seen in that mission, while Bonnie is hanged from the frame of a gate.
