Archer Fordham est un agent fédéral rattaché au Bureau of Investigation et le protégé de son agent principal, Edgar Ross. Jeune homme rasé de près, vêtu d'un costume sombre et d'un chapeau melon, il entre dans l'histoire en juin 1907, l'année de la fondation du Bureau. Fordham travaille aux côtés de Ross durant une enquête sur les derniers membres du gang Van der Linde dans West Elizabeth.
Fordham et Ross atteignent la cachette de Micah Bell sur Mount Hagen et y trouvent le corps de Micah. Ils poursuivent l'affaire en interrogeant des gens dans toute la région. Leurs investigations les mènent à Valentine, où ils questionnent des hommes au Smithfield's Saloon, puis vers Rhodes, où Ross remet une carte à un passager de diligence. Fordham reste aux côtés de Ross tandis que l'agent plus âgé dirige l'enquête.
Les agents finissent par se rendre à Beecher's Hope, dans Great Plains. De loin, Fordham et Ross observent John Marston apprendre à Jack comment brosser un cheval. Ils concluent que John est lié à la mort de Micah, échangent un signe de tête et quittent le ranch afin de préparer leur prochain coup.
Anecdotes
- ◆Fordham's mother, Maybelle, has been dead since July 24th, 1900, and is buried at Blackwater cemetery.
- ◆If Marston captures Javier Escuella, Fordham seems to have a more positive feeling towards Marston during the first two cutscenes in which he speaks. If Marston brings in Escuella dead, Fordham will show less appreciation to Marston, due to the fact that he instructed Marston to bring him alive.
- ◆Fordham uses a Cattleman Revolver in the earlier missions but later uses a High Power Pistol, just as Edgar Ross did.
- ◆Even though Fordham is Ross' partner, like Jonah and Eli, they actually contrast. Ross wears light clothes while Fordham wears dark clothes, Ross is old while Fordham is young, Ross is short while Fordham is tall and, most importantly, Ross is deceitful and sardonic while Fordham is honest and blunt.
- ◆In the mission "The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed", Fordham is present during the Dead Eye sequence and can be killed. However, he may disappear in the following cutscene regardless of whether or not he is shot. Fordham can also be spotted before this sequence, when John is observing the Army through the barn's doors.
- ◆A Marshal, Isaac McKinnon, is often mistaken for Fordham as he bears a striking resemblance to him and is seen close to Ross' side by the final cutscene in the mission.
- ◆Interestingly, Fordham does not make an appearance or is mentioned in the epilogue even when spared.
- ◆In the Blackwater Ledger only Edgar Ross is credited for all of the work with no mention of Fordham.
- ◆An unused 1899 appearance for Fordham exists in the game files, implying he may have originally been intended to have appeared prior to the Epilogue as a member of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency, as indicated by the Pinkerton badge featured on the model.
