Le Mustang est une petite race de cheval au maniement Standard dans Red Dead Redemption 2, classée entre les catégories War et Work. Il combine les caractéristiques des deux types, avec une silhouette élancée et un garrot prononcé. Sa santé et son endurance le placent parmi les chevaux Work et War les plus robustes, tandis que sa vitesse est correcte et son accélération plus ordinaire. Son maniement lui confère une agilité et une réactivité modérées.
Les Mustangs sont des chevaux sauvages qui errent dans la nature. Des Mustangs Wild Bay et Grullo Dun apparaissent dans les Heartlands centrales de New Hanover et à l'ouest de Fort Mercer dans New Austin. Le Mustang Tiger Striped Bay se trouve à l'est de Fort Mercer, près de Rio Del Lobo Rock dans New Austin. La race sert de monture multi-classe pour les rôles de travail et de combat.
Certains Mustangs appartiennent à des personnages nommés. Lenny Summers garde Maggie, un Mustang Light Palomino plus petit doté d'un modèle unique, au camp du gang. En 1907, Sadie Adler monte Hera, le Mustang Dark Bay Roan, qui apparaît durant les missions et près de Sadie. Dans Red Dead Online, Marshal Tom Davies monte un Mustang Golden Dun aux marques semblables à celles du Tiger Striped Bay.
Anecdotes
- ◆The Mustang is one of the signature horses of the Del Lobo Gang, and they can be seen riding both Wild Bays and Grullo Duns in three random encounters with the gang including one in Armadillo, one involving the gang riding through a random spot in New Austin, and one where three Del Lobos try to solicit a prostitute who will ride away on one of the Mustangs if the encounter is allowed to play out.
- ◆The Tiger Striped Bay is one of the rarest mounts, and can be found west of Rio del Lobo Rock and southeast of Fort Mercer. Paytah also rides this horse in "Eastward Bound".
- ◆Mustangs can be found in New Austin, West Elizabeth, and New Hanover though they are most commonly found in New Austin.
- ◆Besides the Arabian, the Mustang is one of the few horses that NPC's will give compliments to, with the other two being the Turkoman and Missouri Fox Trotter. Coincidentally, the latter three are all multi-class horses.
- ◆Despite every Mustang except Maggie featuring heavy feathering, Mustangs do not typically have feathers and those that do typically only have light feathering which may increase slightly during the winter. This heavy feathering in conjunction with the numerous Duns likely points towards these being Spanish Barb Mustangs, though it cannot be said for certain.
- ◆The Wild Bay features a dorsal stripe and Pangaré fur on the lower body and muzzle. The unique coloring and stripe may possibly indicate that this is a mildly expressed bay dun.
- ◆The Grullo Dun is a base black horse featuring slight dun characteristics including much lighter fur, and a dorsal stripe in addition to a stripe face marking.
- ◆The Tiger Striped Bay is a bay dun featuring heavy primitive markings on the legs and a dorsal stripe, with a star marking on the forehead. The mane and tail is moderately sun-bleached.
- ◆The Light Palomino exhibits very heavily expressed white ticking as a rabicano and features four socks in addition to a blaze and a sun-bleached mane and tail. She is smaller than other mustangs, uses a slightly different model and does not feature feathering.
- ◆The Dark Bay Roan is a dark bay roan with a star, although the purple hue is exaggerated and inaccurate to real-world horses. A large number of corn marks cover the torso and rear.
- ◆The Buckskin has no markings aside from a black patch on the forehead, possibly as a result of the sooty gene. The tail is slightly sun-bleached, and the color and markings may indicate that this is a reference to the titular character from the 2002 Dreamworks film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
- ◆The Red Dun Overo is a chestnut dun frame overo with a bald face also featuring blue eyes, a dorsal stripe and heavy primitive markings on the legs. Oddly, much of the fur around the eyes is a different color from the rest of the body; the reason for this is unknown.
- ◆The Black Overo is a black base frame overo with a skull face marking.
- ◆The Tovero appears to be a maximum sabino overo mixed with small splotches of a chestnut base tobiano, with blue eyes and a mane and tail that is not sun-bleached.
- ◆The Golden Dun Mustang is a buckskin dun featuring the exact same markings as the Tiger Striped Bay, albeit with brown fur on the muzzle that incorrectly covers the inner nose and lips, and a mane, tail, and feathers that are sun-bleached.
