Note del giocatore
Il Vampire, chiamato anche Nosferatu, è un uomo emaciato e calvo, dalla pelle pallida, con orecchie appuntite e zanne. Indossa un cappotto nero rifinito di rosso sopra una camicia blu scuro e porta un Ornate Dagger. Vive da qualche parte nei dintorni di Saint Denis e sostiene di esistere da secoli. I resoconti nei giornali della città lo collegano a cinque omicidi, mentre i messaggi lasciati sulle vittime ne segnalano la presenza per le strade.
Arthur Morgan rintraccia per la prima volta il Vampire grazie a cinque criptiche iscrizioni sui muri di Saint Denis. Una si trova accanto al negozio di articoli vari, mentre le altre compaiono vicino al Fontana Theatre, dietro l'armeria, accanto al cancello del mercato e nei pressi di Doyle's Tavern. Arthur annota gli scritti nel suo diario. Dopo averli trovati tutti, i suoi appunti formano un rozzo pentagramma il cui centro indica uno stretto vicolo cieco tra la cattedrale e la macelleria.
Poco dopo mezzanotte, Arthur trova il Vampire in quel vicolo mentre si nutre di una sesta vittima. L'uomo reagisce sorpreso prima di ordinare ad Arthur di andarsene, minacciandolo della stessa sorte del cadavere. Se Arthur resta o lo provoca, il Vampire si avventa su di lui con il suo pugnale e può ucciderlo con un solo colpo. Arthur può uccidere l'aggressore, poi raccogliere l'Ornate Dagger nel punto in cui cade e perquisirne il corpo.
Curiosità
- ◆The vampire is among the only four enemies in the game that can kill a player in a single hit, regardless of their statistics. The other three include members of the Night Folk, Sheriff Freeman, and the Hermit.
- ◆If murdered by the vampire, the player will have to wait three in-game days before they can find him again, so it is recommended to save progress before facing him.
- ◆His Ornate Dagger is a missable item, so if the player wishes to keep it, they should pick it up as soon as the vampire is killed. There's the possibility that hogtying him may prevent the dagger from falling on the ground.
- ◆If the player runs far enough from the vampire, he will stop chasing the player and will start to act like a normal NPC.
- ◆If the player manages to disarm him, he will pull out a Hunting Knife.
- ◆Carrying the vampire around, hogtied or dead, will provoke disgusted reactions from nearby NPCs, but it will not incur in a wanted level, even if the player drops the vampire at the police station.
- ◆The vampire's physical appearance appears to be based on Count Orlok, the main antagonist of the German 1922 silent film Nosferatu.
- ◆The entire Easter egg hunt involving the vampire could very well be inspired by a Pressing Issues radio segment from Rockstar North's hit game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. In the segment discussing perception and attitude, guest Konstantinos Smith mentions wanting to visit New Orleans (the real-life counterpart of Saint Denis) in astral form after death, along with other subtle references to the undead. Konstantinos also talks about summoning spirits and knowing the truth of the pentagram, which ties into his insight into the occult—similar to the pentagram formed by the vampire's ritualistic killings. Additionally, he references Vlad Dracula, the real-life inspiration for almost all vampires in media, during the same conversation. As an addendum, another guest on the show reports hearing about vampire sightings at the local mall.
- ◆A newspaper article recounts the trial and execution of a criminal named Bosco Lopez, who arrived in Saint Denis from Argentina aboard a frigate. Bosco was responsible for five murders in the area, leaving bite marks on his victims and scrawling messages near their bodies in blood. Although Bosco was hanged, the vampire's eerily similar methods suggest he may have returned from the dead as a vampire to continue his spree of death.
- ◆There is a destroyed hearse in Hennigan's Stead with its driver hanged next to it, which may be related to the vampire.
- ◆In Chapter 4, at the gang's camp, Karen mentions a blood-drinking person in Saint Denis during a conversation with Mary-Beth, who finds it to be very romantic.
- ◆Given that the vampire left his messages and attacked his victims near the Cathedral of Saint Denis, it is highly likely that his murders carry a religious undertone. This aligns with traditional vampire folklore, which often portrays vampires as demons or malevolent spirits inhabiting corpses—beings condemned as enemies of God and unable to cross into the Kingdom of Heaven.
- ◆The Five Mysterious Writings that the player has to find is similar to the Murder Mystery in Grand Theft Auto V, as in both instances the player has to find mysterious writing that can only be found on walls.
