◆The name of the breed is not specific but indicates that it originates from Turkmenistan, and likely refers to the Akhal-Teke, but could also refer to the Turkoman, which most probably went extinct prior to the 20th century (there is an endangered horse breed called "Turkemin" in modern-day Iran, but it might not be the original Turkoman breed).
