• ◆The Mauser Pistol is based on the real world Mauser C96. In reality, the C96 fired in semi-auto only, with fully automatic C96 designs being experimented with only in the late 1920s before beginning production later (such as the Astra 901 and Mauser's own M712 Schnellfeuer variant in the early 1930s); long after the game's playable time period (1911, 1914).
• ◆John Marston is shown holding a Mauser in some of the game's loading screens.
• ◆Marston and Dutch are the only two characters in the game to use this weapon.
• ◆An advert in the 1914 newspaper states that it remains acceptable to buy Mauser pistols from the gunsmith in Blackwater despite the outbreak of the First World War in Europe.
• ◆In Multiplayer, it fires slower in full-auto than if the player was to rapidly press the fire button.
• ◆The Mauser is one of two pistols in Red Dead Redemption which is not reloaded by a detachable magazine, the other being the Volcanic Pistol. The Mauser Pistol is reloaded using stripper clips.
