• ◆While the in-game weapon is based on the Winchester Model 1894, the menu screen illustration depicts a Winchester Model 1873. Also, the rifle in the game seems to take on more ammunition than its real world counterpart. In comparison, the repeater in the game holds up to 10 rounds of ammunition while in real life it only holds 7 + 1 in the chamber. However the Winchester 1894 is also chambered to fire pistol cartridges, so it's possible the gun Marston uses takes pistol cartridges.
• ◆The Winchester is widely recognized as a symbol of the American West, earning it the nickname "The Gun that Won the West".
• ◆Even if the player purchases the rifle from the Gunsmith in Armadillo the barrel will still be rusty as if it has been used before.
• ◆During the events of Red Dead Redemption 2, John can often be seen carrying a unique Lancaster Repeater that is iron-plated with a Rosewood varnish. It is often strapped over his left shoulder, and he can be seen using it in combat at various times in 1899. However, the weapon is omitted from his inventory when he is playable in the game. The rifle's customization is a nod to the Winchester Repeater from the original Red Dead Redemption.
