Legendary Animals Route

Where to go first, which hunts to leave for later chapters, and how to avoid wasting a perfect legendary pelt.

Route overlays: practical checkpoints for planning your run. Use them as route anchors, then follow clue tracks in each local area.

Recommended order

  1. Start in Chapter 2 with nearby hunts (Buck, Beaver, Fox) to unlock useful trinkets early.
  2. Do northern hunts next (Bison, Moose, Ram) once better weapons and horse stamina are in place.
  3. Leave remote swamp / far-west routes for a dedicated travel run to reduce backtracking.
  4. Handle late-game / high-pressure encounters last, after dead-eye and core upgrades are online.

Tips

  • Always inspect clues in order; if the trail drops, ride out and re-enter the area.
  • Use the weapon class the compendium recommends; explosive ammo is overkill here.
  • Skin legendaries immediately; pelt + parts are what feed trapper/fence unlocks.
  • Do not panic about carcass loss: trapper crafting still unlocks when pelts are delivered correctly.
