يظهر Mickey للمرة الأولى في Chapter 2 خارج Keane's Saloon في Valentine، جالساً بمحاذاة مبنى أزرق. وهو رجل مشرّد بذراع واحدة يرتدي زياً عسكرياً باهتاً، ويقول إن التقدم في السن جعله عاجزاً عن العمل ويطلب من Arthur Morgan أن يكون صديقه. إذا منحه Arthur بعض الوقت، يتحدث Mickey عن صديق ميت أُلقي عليه اللوم في موته، ثم يطلب أن يحتضن Arthur. يمكن لـ Arthur أن يعانقه لفترة وجيزة، مانحاً الرجل الوحيد التواصل الذي يبحث عنه.

- ◆The three chevrons on the sleeves of Mickey's coat indicate that he is wearing a sergeant's uniform, although it could also be a first sergeant's uniform, as the difference is one diamond just above the chevrons. However Mickey has a patch over his rank insignia, making it difficult to tell.
- ◆Mickey's uniform appears to be a genuine United States Army uniform— but not a Civil War era uniform. The sergeant chevrons that are sewn onto his coat are white, while white chevrons were not issued until after the Civil War. If his uniform was from the Civil War, the chevrons would be blue.
- ◆Mickey's charade is initially convincing because Civil War veterans migrated to the postwar West in great numbers. Those who did so had often served in combat-heavy units and therefore suffered trauma and mental illness at greater rates than those veterans who managed to successfully integrate back into the civilian life of their hometowns in the East after the war. Struggling Civil War veterans were not an uncommon sight in the postwar West, particularly among isolated small towns.

- ◆Making friends with Mickey will raise the player's Honor, as well as giving him a hug.
- ◆Occasionally, Mickey will walk over to Smithfield's Saloon or Keane's Saloon and hang out at the bar.
- ◆Mickey is a direct contrast to Joe Butler, seeing as Mickey was lying about being a veteran, whereas Joe really did fight in the war. This contrast also goes further, seeing as Joe and Mickey have opposite injuries, with the former missing his right leg, and the latter his left arm, as well as the fact that the former was a Confederate soldier, and the latter wears the uniform of a United States soldier, albeit Indian Wars-era.
