Mickey

Mickey first appears in Chapter 2 outside Keane's Saloon in Valentine, seated against a blue building. A homeless, one armed man in a faded military uniform, he says that age has left him unable to work and asks Arthur Morgan to be his friend. If Arthur gives him the time, Mickey speaks of a dead friend whose death was blamed on him, then asks to hold Arthur. Arthur may briefly embrace him, providing the lonely man with the contact he seeks.

Arthur continues to find Mickey around Valentine. Mickey asks Arthur's name and recalls an uncle called Arthur, then later sits by the Train Station asking passersby for a drink before requesting a dollar from Arthur. Back outside the saloon, he loudly claims to have fought in the Civil War and asks whether Arthur is mad. At the station again, he says he has forgotten both their names, describing Arthur only as a large man with a gun and himself as a small man who can no longer afford one.

After Arthur is diagnosed with tuberculosis, Mickey notices that he looks ill. Arthur admits that he is not well, and Mickey confesses that he never served in the army. He says he invented the story to attract sympathy. In 1907, John Marston meets Mickey in Valentine. Mickey remembers Arthur's kindness but calls him "Alan" until John corrects him and says Arthur has died. Mickey asks John for a hug, but John declines because he has a woman.
