وُلد Nigel في Maidenhead، Berkshire، وغادر إنجلترا برفقة صديقه Gavin بحثا عن حياة جديدة في أمريكا. عبرا المحيط الأطلسي قبل عام 1899، لكن Nigel استيقظ ذات صباح ليجد أن Gavin قد اختفى. لا يملك تفسيرا لاختفائه، ويبدأ بحثا دؤوبا عن رفيقه الذي يعتقد أنه ضاع في مكان ما في البلاد.
خلال عام 1899، يظهر Nigel أربع مرات وهو يجوب الشوارع والبراري سائلا الغرباء عن Gavin. يمر عبر Rhodes وSaint Denis، ثم يواصل طريقه عبر Roanoke Ridge وصولا إلى Blackwater. يكون متوترا ويزداد اضطرابه، فينادي Gavin ويصر على أن صديقه لا بد أن يكون قريبا، لكن لا أحد ممن يقابلهم يستطيع إخباره إلى أين ذهب Gavin.

- ◆Although Arthur may choose to kill him, Nigel can still be seen in the Epilogue regardless.
- ◆Nigel's situation is somewhat similar to that of Sam Odessa. Both characters are desperately trying to find something (a person, Gavin, and a place, California respectably), but are never successful, and end up going mentally insane and disheveled over time.
- ◆Nigel tells the player that his friend Gavin is a "cockney" Londoner, but this is reportedly incorrect as Tom states they came from Berkshire and would lie about being from London. Furthermore, Nigel is shown lying in his letter to Tom about the pair becoming millionaire cowboys in America, while Gavin reportedly wrote about nothing of the sort in a letter he sent.
- ◆This would possibly suggest that the pair actually had a falling out over Nigel's behavior, which is further supported by the existence of a cut restraining order from Gavin mentioned in the game files.
