Dogs

Dogs are domesticated animals found across Los Santos and Blaine County. They appear beside homes, with owners who sit nearby, or accompany people on walks. Dogs also roam alone along beaches, including the north shore of Paleto Bay. When separated from an owner, a dog may make its way back to its original home, or wait outside another house. The enhanced version adds Border Collies, Huskies, Poodles and Pugs to the breeds seen in the original release.

Dogs can react to violence around them. Some attack when a person harms them, provokes their owner or enters their home, while other breeds flee. Ballas dogs join fights involving their owners, particularly around Grove Street, and may attack police who engage the gang. Rednecks in Sandy Shores can keep similarly protective dogs. Security guards may patrol with guard dogs, which react when the guard is attacked or a crime is committed nearby.

Chop, Lamar Davis's Rottweiler, is the named dog most closely associated with Franklin Clinton. Franklin can take Chop for walks and play fetch with him using a ball. Another named dog, Dexie, belongs to Kerry McIntosh; Trevor pursues her after she escapes and takes her collar for Nigel and Mrs. Thornhill. A peyote plant can also transform the player into dogs of several breeds, including Chop.
