American Appetites

In Armadillo, John Marston finds Grace Anderson weeping for her missing son, Ralph. Grace says he disappeared in the hills around Hanging Rock and dismisses the sheriff as no help. John searches the area she names in Cholla Springs. He finds a pool of blood, scattered bones and Ralph's shoe, but nothing that identifies his killer.

Later, John returns to Armadillo and meets a man outside the sheriff's office whose wife, Beryl, vanished while gathering mushrooms near Hanging Rock. Her disappearance follows the same pattern as Ralph's. At the site, John finds Beryl's remains amid blood and bones. After another interval, Violet Roberts asks him to find her husband, Andrew Holifield. Andrew has disappeared in the same hills while Violet is expecting their child.

John follows Andrew's trail and encounters Randall Forrester, who says a city man attacked him and fled. John catches the supposed assailant, ties him up and brings him back to Randall. Randall then reveals that Andrew is innocent and that he intended to eat him, as he did Ralph and Beryl. John can leave Randall to kill Andrew, kill or restrain Randall and release Andrew, or kill both men. The matter ends in Cholla Springs.
