L. Hobbs is an American taxidermist and wildlife art enthusiast who works from the Taxidermist House northeast of Strawberry, in Big Valley, West Elizabeth. She enters the story through hunting requests posted on post-office notice boards rather than through a personal meeting. Her notices appear in Valentine, Strawberry, Rhodes, Saint Denis and Van Horn Trading Post, each requesting perfect animal carcasses for her taxidermy work.
The requests establish an exchange between Hobbs and the hunters who take them on. Perfect carcasses of the animals she lists are collected and mailed to her, where she uses them for her work at home. Once the entire set of hunting requests has been completed, Hobbs sends John Marston an invitation to visit her at the Taxidermist House northeast of Strawberry.
John arrives at Hobbs' home and is shown the taxidermist's collection of mounted animals. Hobbs then gives him a squirrel statue made in his likeness, complete with clothes resembling his own. She remains at the Taxidermist House in Big Valley after presenting John with the small figure.
Trivia
- โHobbs is possibly a reference to English authors Beatrix Potter, and A. A. Milne, who both wrote stories about animals who dressed and acted like humans, most significantly, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, and Winnie-the-Pooh.
- โDuring her conversation with John, she mentions that she attempted to perform taxidermy on deceased humans during a Cholera outbreak but dismissively claimed animals were better for it.
- โIn the intro for the Naturalist role in Red Dead Online, Gus Macmillan mentions L. Hobbs while flaunting a recently killed panther, revealing the taxidermy displays in the Welcome Center to have also been made by her.
- โHer head model is shared with Gloria, but she uses a different face texture.
- โIn the credits, she is the only female character referred to as "Ms." instead of "Mrs.", likely indicating she is unmarried.
