Player notes

At Horseshoe Overlook, Dutch van der Linde has the gang packing after the violence in Valentine. Micah has told him about Dewberry Creek, and Dutch sends Arthur Morgan with Charles Smith to see whether it can shelter them. On the ride through Scarlett Meadows, Charles wonders how long the gang can keep moving. Arthur says the Pinkertons have Cornwall's money behind them, making escape harder.

Dewberry Creek proves dry and unsuitable. Arthur and Charles find a corpse in the creek bed, then search a nearby camp. Beneath a wagon, they discover a German woman and her children. Her daughter explains that men took her father during the night. Arthur initially refuses to involve himself, but Charles persuades him to follow the kidnappers' trail.

The trail leads to a camp near Flat Iron Lake, where the captive settler lies bound on the ground. Gunmen attack when Arthur and Charles move in, and the two men fight them off before freeing him. Arthur escorts the settler back to his family, who reward him with a gold ingot. The gang then reaches its new camp at Clemens Point, where Dutch approves of the place.

Trivia

  • โ—†Despite Dutch being briefed by Micah about Dewberry Creek, the mission "An American Pastoral Scene" (after which Micah effectively returns to camp) is not required to unlock this mission and the player can delay its completion as far as a certain point in Chapter 3, after which they will be forced to complete it to pursue the main story. This provides the players with the ability to keep Micah out of camp for the major part of Chapter 2. It stands to reason that Micah visited and told Dutch about the location following his first scouting trip with Lenny.
  • โ—†There are two bits of foreshadowing quotes that Arthur will remember at the end of Chapters 5 and 6, if his Honor is low:
  • โ—†Immediately before this mission, Hosea can be heard talking to Dutch, where he says, "Turned into a bunch of killers, I mean it" - a line which Arthur remembers in "A Fork in the Road".
  • โ—†Once the mission starts, Dutch will make a comment to Arthur on how to find a new camp with Charles, saying "You have turned into my son." Arthur remembers this line during his final ride in the "Red Dead Redemption" mission.
  • โ—†When Arthur and Charles are tracking down Andreas, the player can use Eagle Eye to track Andreas themselves. If done quickly and correctly, Arthur will inform Charles of the direction that Andreas went before Charles figures it out himself, noting both the player and Arthur's growing skill. This works even while Arthur himself is distracted while talking about the gang.
  • โ—†During the mission, Arthur tells Charles that Dutch would never hide himself, or the gang, in a cave as it was against everything Dutch stood for. This foreshadows the gang's final hideout, which involves a cave.
  • โ—†Dutch's hideout in Red Dead Redemption is also within a cave, underscoring how far he has devolved from his past self in order to survive.
  • โ—†If you look at the shotgun the woman holds against Charles and Arthur, the hammers are not cocked.
  • โ—†If the player aims a weapon at the woman, she will immediately begin shooting at Arthur, failing the mission.
  • โ—†Even if the player finds the dead man's body before Charles does, Charles will still say the same dialogue as if he had found it first.
  • โ—†After rescuing the man, Charles will ride back to the center of the Horseshoe Overlook camp and remain on his horse. Despite the fact that the gang is meant to be packing up and moving, they all behave normally and the camp remains unchanged, with the exception of Arthur's quarters, which have disappeared.
  • โ—†The mission description incorrectly spells Dewberry as "Dewbury".
  • โ—†The "To Greener Pastures" achievement/trophy, earned upon completion of Chapter 2, is a reference to a quote by Irish at the end of the Red Dead Redemption mission "We Shall Be Together in Paradise".
