A Fisher of Fish

Arthur Morgan finds Jeremy Gill fishing from the dock at Gill Landing. Gill assumes Arthur has come for an autograph or a photograph, then takes him into his cabin, where stuffed fish fill the room. Calling himself a legendary fisherman, Gill explains that he sells the mounted catches and gives Arthur a map marking thirteen Legendary Fish across the country. He asks that any of them be caught and posted to him.

Arthur catches Legendary Fish from the waters marked on Gill's map and sends them through post offices. Some of the remaining fish lie beyond the areas Arthur can reach. In the epilogue, John Marston continues the collection in New Austin and the southern part of West Elizabeth, catches the last of the thirteen fish and mails them to Gill. A letter then arrives, inviting John back to Gill Landing.

John returns to Gill's cabin with a camera, and Gill mistakes him for somebody else before recognising him as a fellow fishing enthusiast. Gill wants photographic proof of his attempt to land an enormous catfish in Río Bravo, so John accompanies him to the San Luis River. Gill fishes through the day until a bite comes at night. The catfish drags him into the water and he disappears, leaving his hat and a Special Spinner on the bank.
