Le Police Maverick, ou Polmav, est un hélicoptère de police à quatre places fabriqué par Buckingham dans Grand Theft Auto V. Il remplace l'ancienne version policière du Maverick par une cellule distincte et plus moderne. Son nez vitré triangulaire, ainsi que l'agencement de sa caméra et de son projecteur, s'inspirent de l'Eurocopter EC130, tandis que ses deux échappements rappellent ceux des Bell 222 et Bell 230. Le cockpit reprend également des éléments du Bell 430, avec un style latéral dérivé de l'Eurocopter EC135.
L'hélicoptère arbore une livrée LSPD blanche et noire, avec des marquages sur ses flancs et sa face inférieure. Des portes coulissantes restent ouvertes au-dessus de la cabine, qui dispose de marchepieds d'accès et de longs patins d'atterrissage. Un rotor principal à trois pales, deux treuils et un rotor de queue à deux pales complètent sa conception. Sa caméra embarquée peut identifier des personnes grâce aux émetteurs RFID de leur permis de conduire, écouter des conversations éloignées et utiliser la vision thermique. Dans Online, le copilote peut utiliser la caméra pour observer et marquer les autres joueurs.
Le Police Maverick est assez maniable et offre une vitesse aérienne correcte, ce qui le rend utile pour les évasions et extractions rapides, mais ses performances générales sont médiocres face aux autres hélicoptères. Il est plus lent que le Swift et le FH-1 Hunter, et son taux de montée est moyen pour un hélicoptère de transport. Il ne possède aucun blindage et reste vulnérable aux tirs et aux explosifs. Des Police Mavericks participent aux poursuites contre des suspects ayant un Wanted Level de trois étoiles ou plus, et l'équipement de surveillance de l'hélicoptère est utilisé durant Eye in the Sky.
Anecdotes
- ◆In one of the GTA V Artworks, the Police Maverick appears to assume the Eurocopter AS350B design, evidenced by the shorter rear doors and the different searchlight positioning, as well as a different livery, very different from the current one used by the vehicle in-game (excluding the "LSPD" on its underside, which remains the same).
- ◆In the first trailer, the Police Maverick was initially based on its GTA IV rendition with the current black and white scheme.
- ◆Unlike in GTA IV, Police Mavericks and Buzzards are never used by the LSPD during wanted levels, but only by NOOSE TRU agents. Only the ones used during certain missions and those flying above Grove Street, Vinewood, and Davis are used by the LSPD.
- ◆Those spawning flying above the city will never chase the player while being wanted and will keep their scripted scenario, although the game will still mark them as active helicopters and will spot the player if they remain "identified" (i.e. not switching vehicles out of sight). If the player attempts to approach them while being wanted, the copilot will attack them with a Pistol.
- ◆Police Maverick officers may talk through the megaphone quotes like "LSPD, hands up" and "Stop right there". They sound more muffled than the quotes read from the LSPD Cruisers, possibly due to their height.
- ◆Due to the "Air Ambulance" only being a variant of the Police Maverick rather than a separate vehicle, it tends to spawn flying around the Bolingbroke Penitentiary instead of the regular Police Maverick.
- ◆While the Police Maverick is programmed to carry two people in the rear bay during regular gameplay, those that spawn during wanted levels and are deploying NOOSE TRU officers on the ground will have two more appearing from behind the rear wall of the bay, as if the aircraft is capable of carrying six people.
