À Beecher's Hope, John trouve Jack en train de s'exercer au fusil. Il corrige la posture de son fils, l'avertissant de ne pas raidir le dos ni laisser l'arme bondir. Des loups s'en prennent au bétail du ranch, alors John emmène Jack et Rufus pour les chasser. Le père et le fils montent à cheval, tandis que Rufus quitte la propriété sur la piste des loups.
Rufus mène John et Jack dans Tall Trees. En chemin, John songe à la présence persistante d'Uncle au ranch, incapable de comprendre pourquoi Dieu l'a laissé en vie. Rufus finit par repérer l'odeur d'une meute de loups. John et Jack affrontent les animaux et tuent les loups avant que le chien ne les mène plus loin dans les bois.
Rufus trouve une autre meute dans Tall Trees, et John et Jack le suivent jusqu'à elle. Ils éliminent les loups restants qui menaçaient le bétail de Beecher's Hope. La chasse terminée et la zone sécurisée, John, Jack et Rufus retournent à Beecher's Hope à cheval.

Anecdotes
- ◆In the opening cutscene, when Jack is practicing with the rifle, John gives him advice on how to improve his aim by telling him not to stiffen his back "because it'll make the rifle jump". It is the same advice given to John by Landon Ricketts in the mission "The Gunslinger's Tragedy".
- ◆When Jack is firing the Repeater Carbine, it is being operated correctly like its real life counterpart the Spencer Carbine. Unlike most lever actions like the Henry or Winchester, the hammer on the Spencer had to be manually cocked by hand in order to fire. During regular gameplay however, the weapon fires by simply operating the lever.
- ◆In a dialogue with Jack when following Rufus to the hunting spot, John says of Uncle, "God must've had some purpose for keeping him on this Earth, but I sure as hell don't know what that is." This could be foreshadowing at Uncle's eventual involvement in notifying John of the approaching Army in "The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed". Were it not for Uncle's lookout, John may not have been ready and Abigail and Jack may not have been spared, giving some answer to John's questioning of why Uncle of all people is still alive.
