Le Lion est un animal unique et non nommé de Red Dead Redemption 2, basé sur Panthera leo melanochaita. Il s'agit d'un véritable lion exotique du cirque de Margaret, et non de l'un des animaux nord-américains modifiés présentés comme des numéros exotiques. Margaret décrit le lion comme l'attraction vedette de son spectacle et affirme qu'il vient de "Tanganyiki".
Il n'existe qu'un seul Lion, qui apparaît à Emerald Ranch, dans The Heartlands, au cours de la mission d'inconnu "He's British, of Course". Une fois le faux "zebra" et le faux "tiger" de Margaret réglés, l'animal est signalé au ranch. Deux employés du ranch maintiennent une grange fermée et éloignent les gens avant que le lion ne surgisse du toit, tuant un employé du ranch et plusieurs bovins.
Le Lion quitte les abords de la grange et est suivi à travers Emerald Ranch jusqu'aux écuries. Il y émerge, aperçoit son poursuivant et charge. C'est une rencontre agressive et unique, il doit être tué en tant que dernier animal lié au cirque de Margaret. Sa Lion's Paw peut être récupérée après sa mort et utilisée pour le Lion's Paw Trinket, tandis que Margaret paie toujours avec une Emerald.
Anecdotes
- ◆The Lion has a unique character model in spite of only appearing briefly in the game. The model moves and operates similarly to that of a cougar and panther.
- ◆The Lion is the only member of its species which appears in the entirety of Red Dead Redemption 2 due to being a non-native species. As such, it is not included in the compendium.
- ◆It is also the only non-american exotic animal seen in the Red Dead Redemption franchise.
- ◆The Lion is one of the few enemies which can instantly kill the player, others include the Vampire, Sheriff Freeman, the Night Folk, the Hermit, and the Legendary Giaguaro Panther.
- ◆Aside from the Legendary Giaguaro Panther, it is the only animal that can kill the player instantly.
- ◆The exact subspecies of the Lion is unknown. Margaret makes reference to "Tangyaniki" when describing where the lion is from, which may be referring to Tanganyika - modern day Tanzania. This implies it is an East African Lion although it is unknown if Margaret actually knew where it was from.
- ◆A special animation for the player can be seen if they fail to shoot the lion, where the lion lunges and slices the player's throat and they collapse and die.
