La Jerry Can è una tanica rossa di carburante elencata nella sezione Thrown della Weapon Wheel, sebbene venga trattata separatamente dalle altre armi da lancio. Il suo design si ispira alla Wehrmachtskanister tedesca, con rientranze laterali a forma di croce, avvertenze di infiammabilità e marcature tedesche per il carburante. Le versioni enhanced modificano alcune marcature e aggiungono un'etichetta di avvertimento gialla. Nonostante la sua classificazione come arma, è un contenitore di benzina anziché una tradizionale arma da lancio.
È venduta da ogni Ammu-Nation per $25. Le Jerry Cans si trovano anche all'esterno delle stazioni di servizio a Davis, Strawberry, La Mesa, Murrieta Heights, Mirror Park, Little Seoul, Morningwood, Pacific Bluffs, Richman Glen, Harmony, Grand Senora Desert, Sandy Shores, Grapeseed, Procopio Truck Stop, Paleto Bay Rest Stop e alla RON Gas Station presso Lago Zancudo. Un'altra tanica è disponibile presso Earl's Mini-Mart in Blaine County. Trevor ne porta una in Crystal Maze, Franklin in Blitz Play e Michael in Caida Libre.
La tanica versa benzina sul terreno, lasciando pozze o scie che possono essere incendiate da colpi d'arma da fuoco, fiamme libere o dallo scarico di un veicolo. Il fuoco si propaga attraverso il carburante e può avvolgere gli oggetti vicini. Nelle versioni enhanced, versare nello stesso punto per più di due secondi crea una pozza più grande e più infiammabile. La tanica stessa esplode se viene colpita o incendiata, ferendo chiunque si trovi nelle vicinanze. Non può rifornire i veicoli.
Curiosità
- ◆"Jerry" is a military slang term for a German soldier, so "Jerry Can" literally means "German Can". During World War II, these cans were used for quick refueling of Panzers and proved more robust for storing fuel than their American and British counterparts, so the German design was reverse engineered for use by the Allies.
- ◆Despite the markings stating that it can hold 20 litres of fuel, it can only hold 10 litres.
- ◆In the beta version of the game, the Jerry Can had a greenish gray/camo color, implying that the Jerry Can was made for military purposes, instead of being civilian, or there were two paint schemes (like weapon's tints in Ammu-Nation).
- ◆Although Trevor is constantly seen in artworks holding a silver Zippo-styled lighter (along with the Jerry Can) in a pose implying the use of it to ignite the gasoline from the can, the player still has to use other methods to ignite the gas in the actual game, and the Zippo lighter is not seen in the game at all, aside from an unusable lighter in Floyd's Apartment.
- ◆Using all of its fuel is not possibly visible, as after 50%, the trail starts to disappear from the start.
- ◆Depending of the camera mode, the player may either carry it with a single hand on the handles (in third person) or holding it with both hands on either side of the can (in first person).
- ◆A Jerry Can explosion pushes players in Passive Mode, while any other explosive weapons does not.
- ◆If a player is killed while holding a Jerry Can, and it is shot and destroyed before that player respawns, they will respawn with the can but it will be empty.
