Le Jerry Can est un bidon d'essence rouge répertorié dans la section Thrown du Weapon Wheel, bien qu'il soit traité séparément des autres armes de jet. Son design s'inspire du Wehrmachtskanister allemand, avec des renfoncements latéraux en forme de croix, des avertissements d'inflammabilité et des marquages allemands pour le carburant. Les versions améliorées modifient certains marquages et ajoutent une étiquette d'avertissement jaune. Malgré sa classification comme arme, il s'agit d'un contenant d'essence plutôt que d'une arme de jet classique.
Il est vendu par tous les Ammu-Nation pour 25 $. Des Jerry Cans se trouvent également à l'extérieur des stations-service de Davis, Strawberry, La Mesa, Murrieta Heights, Mirror Park, Little Seoul, Morningwood, Pacific Bluffs, Richman Glen, Harmony, Grand Senora Desert, Sandy Shores, Grapeseed, Procopio Truck Stop, Paleto Bay Rest Stop et de la RON Gas Station à Lago Zancudo. Un autre bidon est disponible chez Earl's Mini-Mart dans Blaine County. Trevor en porte un dans Crystal Maze, Franklin dans Blitz Play et Michael dans Caida Libre.
Le bidon répand de l'essence sur le sol, laissant des flaques ou des traînées qui peuvent être enflammées par des tirs, des flammes nues ou l'échappement d'un véhicule. Le feu se propage dans le carburant et peut engloutir les objets proches. Dans les versions améliorées, verser au même endroit pendant plus de deux secondes crée une flaque plus grande et plus inflammable. Le bidon explose lui-même s'il est touché par un tir ou enflammé, blessant toute personne se trouvant à proximité. Il ne peut pas ravitailler les véhicules.
Anecdotes
- ◆"Jerry" is a military slang term for a German soldier, so "Jerry Can" literally means "German Can". During World War II, these cans were used for quick refueling of Panzers and proved more robust for storing fuel than their American and British counterparts, so the German design was reverse engineered for use by the Allies.
- ◆Despite the markings stating that it can hold 20 litres of fuel, it can only hold 10 litres.
- ◆In the beta version of the game, the Jerry Can had a greenish gray/camo color, implying that the Jerry Can was made for military purposes, instead of being civilian, or there were two paint schemes (like weapon's tints in Ammu-Nation).
- ◆Although Trevor is constantly seen in artworks holding a silver Zippo-styled lighter (along with the Jerry Can) in a pose implying the use of it to ignite the gasoline from the can, the player still has to use other methods to ignite the gas in the actual game, and the Zippo lighter is not seen in the game at all, aside from an unusable lighter in Floyd's Apartment.
- ◆Using all of its fuel is not possibly visible, as after 50%, the trail starts to disappear from the start.
- ◆Depending of the camera mode, the player may either carry it with a single hand on the handles (in third person) or holding it with both hands on either side of the can (in first person).
- ◆A Jerry Can explosion pushes players in Passive Mode, while any other explosive weapons does not.
- ◆If a player is killed while holding a Jerry Can, and it is shot and destroyed before that player respawns, they will respawn with the can but it will be empty.
