Il Legendary Cougar è la versione leggendaria del puma nel gioco. Il suo pelo nero lo distingue dai puma comuni, rendendolo facilmente identificabile. Come gli altri puma, è un carnivoro che caccia cervi, wapiti, alci e capre di montagna. È aggressivo e può attaccare quando lo si incontra.
Vive a New Austin, nell'area di Gaptooth Ridge a nord di Gaptooth Breach. L'animale viene rintracciato e cacciato lì, e il suo temperamento pericoloso lo rende una preda ostile anziché un animale passivo. Il suo manto distintivo rende inoltre più facile riconoscerlo una volta trovato nel suo territorio.
Uccidendo e scuoiando il Legendary Cougar si ottengono il Legendary Cougar Fang, la Legendary Cougar Pelt, Big Game Meat e una Legendary Cougar Carcass. Il Fang viene usato presso un Fence per creare il Cougar Fang Trinket. La Pelt può essere portata a un Trapper per ottenere il Legendary Cougar/Wolf Vest, i Legendary Cougar Riding Gloves e il Legendary Cougar Flop Hat, che fanno parte del Beast of Prey Garment Set.

- ◆As the Legendary Cougar's habitat is in New Austin, it can only be hunted after the epilogue. However, there are some exploits that allow the player to hunt it earlier.
