Il Rat è un piccolo roditore non aggressivo in Red Dead Redemption 2, rappresentato dal Black rat, Rattus rattus, e dal Brown rat, Rattus norvegicus. Vive nelle aree selvagge e nelle città, nutrendosi di cibo recuperato, cereali, semi e piccoli animali. I Rat sono considerati parassiti perché portano malattie, consumano le scorte di cibo e danneggiano le proprietà.
I Rat sono presenti in tutto il mondo, anche se sono concentrati a est. Si riuniscono in maggior numero tra Owanjila e Strawberry in Big Valley, nei bassifondi di Saint Denis e a Copperhead Landing tra Saint Denis e Van Horn Trading Post. Doyle's Tavern ne è infestata, mentre Rat rognosi vivono sotto la cascata a nord di Elysian Pool. Sono rari nei Grizzlies e quasi assenti da New Austin, a eccezione di Armadillo.
Un Rat può fornire una Rat Pelt, Stringy Meat e una Rat Carcass. I Perfect Rat sono richiesti per la seconda richiesta della Wildlife Art Exhibition, e dieci Perfect Rat vengono usati per realizzare il Rat Flat Cap dal Trapper.

- ◆There are two random encounters in Doyle's Tavern in Saint Denis where Doyle will ask the player to clear his bar of rats. If done correctly, this will give the player the required amount of rat pelts the trapper needs for all items.
- ◆During "American Venom", a rat can be seen exiting Micah's cabin when John is approaching.
- ◆If the player kills rats in towns, they will get a positive honor for it.
