Player notes
The Rat is a small, non-threatening rodent in Red Dead Redemption 2, represented by the Black rat, Rattus rattus, and the Brown rat, Rattus norvegicus. It lives in wilderness areas and towns, feeding on scavenged food, grain, seeds and small animals. Rats are treated as pests because they carry disease, consume food stores and damage property.
Rats occur throughout the world, though they are concentrated in the east. They gather in greater numbers between Owanjila and Strawberry in Big Valley, in the Saint Denis slums and at Copperhead Landing between Saint Denis and Van Horn Trading Post. Doyle's Tavern is infested with them, while mangy rats live beneath the waterfall north of Elysian Pool. They are scarce in the Grizzlies and nearly absent from New Austin apart from Armadillo.
A rat can yield a Rat Pelt, Stringy Meat and a Rat Carcass. Perfect Rats are required for the Wildlife Art Exhibition's second request, and ten Perfect Rats are used to make the Rat Flat Cap at the Trapper.
Trivia
- โThere are two random encounters in Doyle's Tavern in Saint Denis where Doyle will ask the player to clear his bar of rats. If done correctly, this will give the player the required amount of rat pelts the trapper needs for all items.
- โDuring "American Venom", a rat can be seen exiting Micah's cabin when John is approaching.
- โIf the player kills rats in towns, they will get a positive honor for it.
