The Raccoon is the American raccoon, Procyon lotor, a moderately sized omnivorous mammal in Red Dead Redemption 2. Its diet varies with its surroundings and includes plants, berries, amphibians, rodents and eggs. It has a white face marked by black fur around the eyes, rounded ears edged in white, and a ringed tail. Its grey coat also carries some brown colouring.
Raccoons occur across most of the world, but do not appear in Cholla Springs, Río Bravo or Gaptooth Ridge. They are only rarely encountered in Grizzlies West. The Varmint Rifle is the most effective weapon for hunting them.
A killed raccoon yields a Raccoon Pelt, Stringy Meat and a Raccoon Carcass. The meat can be cooked, while its pelt is used in crafting or can be sold. A perfect pelt allows the Trapper to craft the Raccoon Mountain Hat.
