يعثر John على Jack وهو يقرأ كتاب مغامرات تحت شجرة في Beecher's Hope. يخبره Jack عن صياده الشجاع، رجل يطارد من قتلوا والده. يعرض John أن يعلّم ابنه كيفية تعقّب أيل وصيده، ويوافق Jack على الخروج معه على ظهر الخيل.
يمتطي John وJack حصانيهما برفقة Rufus ويتبعان الكلب إلى Tall Trees. يلتقط Rufus أثر أيل ويقودهما إلى الحيوان. يقتل John الأيل ثم يسلخه، شارحاً العمل لـJack. يواصلون الركوب حتى يعثر Rufus على أيل آخر، مانحاً Jack فرصة تنفيذ القتل وسلخه بنفسه.
بعد تحميل اللحم والجلود، يصطحب John، Jack إلى المتجر في Manzanita Post. يبيعان ما أخذاه من الأيل، ثم يغادران البلدة برفقة Rufus. يركب الأب والابن عائدين عبر West Elizabeth ويعودان إلى Beecher's Hope.

- ◆When the player reaches the Epilogue and skins an animal as Jack, he'll occasionally say the line, "Just like you showed me, Pa," referring to this mission in particular.
- ◆The book Jack is reading can be seen as a reference to Red Dead Revolver and foreshadowing to the Stranger side-mission "Remember My Family", as Jack says it's about " how this man, this brave man, hunts the man who killed his father ".
- ◆Although it appears that Jack did not finish skinning the downed elk, the corpse afterwards is the same as the elk John skins.
- ◆This is the only storyline mission which involves the hunting activity.
