Der Tennessee Walker ist ein mittelgroßes Reitpferd in Red Dead Redemption 2 mit Standard Handling. Sein edler Kopf, sein eleganter Körperbau, sein bequemer Gang und sein charakteristischer Trab heben ihn optisch hervor. Tennessee Walkers reagieren und wenden mit mäßiger Wendigkeit. Innerhalb der Reitklasse bevorzugen sie Geschwindigkeit und Beschleunigung gegenüber Gesundheit und Ausdauer, wodurch sie trotz ihres nützlichen Reisetempos zu den eher bescheidenen Reitpferden zählen.
Die meisten Fellvarianten des Tennessee Walker können in der Wildnis gezähmt oder gestohlen werden. Wilde Exemplare streifen durch die Heartlands von New Hanover, die Wapiti Indian Reservation im zentralen Ambarino, das Gebiet außerhalb von Blackwater in West Elizabeth und die Gegend um Armadillo in New Austin. Einige Fellvarianten sind auch käuflich erhältlich. Die Rasse wird als alltägliches Reitpferd eingesetzt und eignet sich eher für Reisen über die Karte als für Anforderungen an außergewöhnliche Widerstandsfähigkeit.
Mehrere Tennessee Walkers erscheinen bei benannten Charakteren und während Story-Missionen. Kieran Duffy reitet in "Old Friends" einen Flaxen Roan namens Branwen, und Branwen erscheint später bei Horseshoe Overlook, nachdem Kieran der Gang beigetreten ist. Während "Outlaws From the West" nimmt Arthur Morgan den einzigartigen Mahogany Bay aus der Scheune der Adler Ranch. Nach "Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego" kann er später benannt oder verkauft werden.

- ◆There is a loading screen that depicts an NPC riding a Flaxen Roan Tennessee Walker, despite the coat only being available to purchase during the epilogue. Trailers also depict the Flaxen Roan spawning ambiently, implying that the relegation to the stables and Kieran was a late addition.
- ◆If the player enters a mission, respawns, or restarts the game without an active main horse, they will be given a Chestnut Tennessee Walker.
- ◆The Scarred Black Rabicano is mistakenly classed as a work horse. Despite being labelled as a Tennessee Walker, this horse uses a slightly modified version of the Appaloosa model.

- ◆The Black Rabicano is a very heavily expressed Rabicano with two socks, a star, and a snip. The Scarred Black Rabicano features the same markings, albeit with extensive damage and fur loss throughout the entire body revealing the underlying skin.
- ◆The Dapple Bay Tennessee Walker demonstrates subtle sooty characteristics.
- ◆The Gold Palomino has a stripe and four socks, in addition to a mane and tail that has not been bleached by the sun. Curiously, the hooves are a solid dark brown color which is considerably rare.
- ◆The Red Roan has a sun-bleached flaxen mane and tail with four socks and a bald face marking. This would sometimes be referred to as "chestnut roan", and the base colors are similar to the Painted Quarter Horse from Red Dead Redemption.
- ◆The Flaxen Roan could be referred to as 'chestnut roan' or 'red roan' and has a mane and tail that has not been bleached by the sun.
- ◆The Mahogany Bay is a Bay Frame Overo that does not display the characteristic 'white face' most overos have, instead featuring a single star and four socks. The all-black face is from the sooty gene, and while some horses may have brown around their muzzle area, it incorrectly covers the entire muzzle including the inner nose and the lips.
