The Tennessee Walker is a medium Riding horse in Red Dead Redemption 2, with Standard handling. Its refined head, elegant build, comfortable gait and distinctive trot set it apart visually. Tennessee Walkers react and turn with moderate agility. Within the riding class, they favour speed and acceleration over health and stamina, placing them among the more modest riding horses despite their useful pace for travel.
Most Tennessee Walker coats can be tamed in the wilderness or stolen. Wild examples roam the Heartlands of New Hanover, the Wapiti Indian Reservation in central Ambarino, the country outside Blackwater in West Elizabeth, and the area around Armadillo in New Austin. Some coats are also available for purchase. The breed is used as an everyday riding horse, suited to journeys across the map rather than demanding exceptional durability.
Several Tennessee Walkers appear with named characters and during story missions. Kieran Duffy rides a Flaxen Roan named Branwen in "Old Friends", and Branwen later appears at Horseshoe Overlook after Kieran joins the gang. During "Outlaws From the West", Arthur Morgan takes the unique Mahogany Bay from the Adler Ranch barn. It can later be named or sold after "Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego".

- โThere is a loading screen that depicts an NPC riding a Flaxen Roan Tennessee Walker, despite the coat only being available to purchase during the epilogue. Trailers also depict the Flaxen Roan spawning ambiently, implying that the relegation to the stables and Kieran was a late addition.
- โIf the player enters a mission, respawns, or restarts the game without an active main horse, they will be given a Chestnut Tennessee Walker.
- โThe Scarred Black Rabicano is mistakenly classed as a work horse. Despite being labelled as a Tennessee Walker, this horse uses a slightly modified version of the Appaloosa model.
- โDespite being a mangy horse, strangely the Scarred Black Rabicano Tennessee Walker has the highest stats of any other Tennessee Walker, sharing stats with the Dark Bay Andalusian, the Dapple Dark Gray Hungarian Half-bred, and the Bay Roan Ardennes.

- โThe Gold Palomino has a stripe and four socks, in addition to a mane and tail that has not been bleached by the sun. Curiously, the hooves are a solid dark brown color which is considerably rare.
- โThe Red Roan has a sun-bleached flaxen mane and tail with four socks and a bald face marking. This would sometimes be referred to as "chestnut roan", and the base colors are similar to the Painted Quarter Horse from Red Dead Redemption.
- โThe Flaxen Roan could be referred to as 'chestnut roan' or 'red roan' and has a mane and tail that has not been bleached by the sun.
- โThe Mahogany Bay is a Bay Frame Overo that does not display the characteristic 'white face' most overos have, instead featuring a single star and four socks. The all-black face is from the sooty gene, and while some horses may have brown around their muzzle area, it incorrectly covers the entire muzzle including the inner nose and the lips.
