Player notes

Arthur Morgan enters the men's shack at Colter, where Micah Bell and Bill Williamson are close to coming to blows. Dutch van der Linde breaks up the argument and directs their anger toward Colm O'Driscoll. He leads Arthur, Micah, Bill, Javier Escuella and Lenny Summers out into the snow, hoping to learn about an O'Driscoll train robbery. Dutch gives Arthur a Carbine Repeater and a lasso before the group rides from Colter through Grizzlies West.

Dutch finds hoofprints leading toward Ewing Basin and follows them. During the ride, he recalls the feud with Colm, who killed Annabelle after Dutch had killed Colm's brother. From a ridge above the basin, the gang watches Colm strike one of his own men before both ride away. Dutch leaves Colm alone for now. He and Arthur move down to the camp, take cover, and attack the O'Driscolls with the rest of the gang.

Arthur fights off the men in the camp, then a second group that opens fire from the woods. Micah finds papers concerning the planned robbery, while Arthur discovers explosives in a cabin. The gang rides back toward Colter until they encounter the O'Driscoll Colm had beaten. He flees, but Arthur catches, hogties and stows him on his horse. At Colter, the captive identifies himself as Kieran Duffy. Dutch has Bill and Uncle tie Kieran up in the barn.

  1. 1Approach your horse and hold (PS4) or (ONE) to view stored weapons.
  2. 2Select a Longarm slot and use (PS4) or (ONE) to cycle to the Carbine Repeater.
  3. 3Select a Sidearm.
  4. 4Aim at the O'Driscolls to tag them and press (PS4) or (ONE) to fire all shots.
  5. 5Hogtie the O'Driscoll .
  6. 6Hold (PS4) or (ONE) near the O'Driscoll to pick him up.
  7. 7Approach the back of your horse and hold (PS4) or (ONE) to stow the O'Driscoll.
  8. 8Return to camp .
  9. 9Hold (PS4) or (ONE) near your horse to remove the O'Driscoll.

Trivia

  • โ—†This mission unlocks Dead Eye Targeting.
  • โ—†On the ride to Ewing Basin, Dutch says, "Some things I can forgive, others I can forget. What he did to Annabelle, I can't do neither." This line is strikingly similar to one of John's lines from Red Dead Redemption.
  • โ—†If Arthur puts the Carbine Repeater back on his horse after picking it up, Dutch will make a comment on it.
  • โ—†In the mission, Dutch claims that Colm doesnโ€™t care about his men and doesnโ€™t know the names of half of them and only prefers numbers. Ironically, this is a foreshadowing of how Dutch turns out to be in 1911, where after he loses his mind, he has a huge gang of Native Americans but doesnโ€™t seem to care about them unlike how he cared about members of his old gang.
  • โ—†If the player spared the O'Driscoll in the mission "Outlaws from the West", he will appear in the cabin in front of the gang after Arthur and Dutch get in cover, and he has unique lines like "You should've killed me when you had the chance!"
  • โ—†Before the shootout, he can also be heard talking to one of the fellow gang members about the interrogation.
  • โ—†If the player disarms an O'Driscoll and leads him to Micah, he will wrestle one of Micah's guns from his hand and make it possible to obtain Micah's Revolver before the epilogue.
  • โ—†If the O'Driscoll disarms any of the Van der Linde gang members, a glitch will occur where multiple melee knife finishers will be performed on the disarmed O'Driscoll but the latter will not die from them.
  • โ—†When the Van der Linde gang is observing the hideout from a distance, Colm O'Driscoll can be seen scolding Kieran.
  • โ—†If the player checks the map after capturing Kieran, they will see six ally markers at the hideout, one for each of the participants in the mission as well as Hosea Matthews. Hosea has no involvement in this mission past brief appearances in the beginning and ending cutscenes.
  • โ—†It is possible to explore the snowy parts of the entire Grizzlies West region once Kieran is captured and stowed on the back of Arthur's horse. However, if the player gets too close to West Elizabeth, New Hanover or Grizzlies East an instant death will trigger which will result in a mission failure.
  • โ—†This way it is possible to gather supplies across the map and attempt to reach the General Store at Wallace Station without being killed by the harsh weather conditions. This way the player can change their default Winter Gunslinger Outfit early and also remove the suspenders.
  • โ—†If this mission is completed before "The Aftermath of Genesis", Kieran can be found tied up in the barn with the horses and Arthur may interact with him.
  • โ—†When Micah is arguing with Bill and Lenny in the mission's opening scene, Lenny will remark to the former that "When you fall, there will be a party." This appears to foreshadow the conclusion of the final mission, "American Venom", in which John and Abigail marry and a celebration is held following Micah's demise.
  • โ—†If this mission is completed after The Aftermath of Genesis, it will automatically continue into the fifth mission of Chapter 1, Who the Hell is Leviticus Cornwall?
  • โ—†The player can kill Kieran's horse Branwen during the chase, but it will have no affect on the story (aside from a loss of honor) and Branwen will still appear at camp as normal after "Just a Social Call".
  • โ—†The Dead Eye meter will not deplete while flashing upon appearing for the first time. This can be useful for completing the "kill 3 O'Driscolls in the same Dead Eye use" objective.
