Player notes
Colm O'Driscoll is an outlaw leader of Irish descent who once works alongside Dutch van der Linde. Their association becomes a feud after Dutch kills Colm's brother and Colm murders Annabelle, Dutch's lover. Colm builds the O'Driscoll Boys into a large gang and rules its members through intimidation, treating them as expendable. Arrested for murder twice, he escapes both convictions before the sentence can be carried out.
During the gang's flight through the Grizzlies, Arthur Morgan and Dutch find Colm at an O'Driscoll camp, where he is berating one of his men before riding away. The Van der Linde gang kills the men left behind and takes plans for a Leviticus Cornwall train robbery. Later, at Clemens Point, Colm proposes a meeting with Dutch. It is a trap that leaves Arthur captive, and Colm explains that he has arranged for the Pinkertons to catch Dutch during a rescue attempt. Arthur escapes before that plan can unfold.
Colm is eventually arrested during a coach inspection and sentenced to hang in Saint Denis. Dutch attends the execution disguised as a police officer, accompanied by Arthur and Sadie Adler. Colm's men prepare to free him, but Arthur kills the sniper Paul while Dutch and Sadie hold the other conspirators at gunpoint. Colm sees that his escape has collapsed, loses his composure on the scaffold, and is hanged in Saint Denis.
Trivia
- โHis name is frequently mispronounced by most characters with the exception of Sean MacGuire and a few O'Driscolls with Irish accents, who pronounce it properly as "Col-om". However, Kieran says that even Colm pronounces his name the way it is spelled, "C-olm". The name Colm is a Gaelic variation of the Latin word for 'dove', columba.
- โDuring an interview, Roger Clark said that as a native Irishman, he was unhappy at having to say Colm O'Driscoll's first name wrong whenever Arthur mentions him, and he tried to get Rockstar Games to use the correct pronunciation, but was unsuccessful, as the Houser brothers insisted on Arthur saying it wrong with the justification that Arthur's an American and would naturally say Colm's name wrong.
- โColm is one of very few characters to appear in multiple cutscenes where the player character is not in his immediate vicinity.
- โA real-life Colm O'Driscoll reportedly received hate messages on X.com (formerly Twitter) by Red Dead Redemption II fans, shortly after the game was released.
- โIn the beta, Colm was one of a few characters to have his own unique horse. This was scrapped in favor of a generic model, as Colm's horse only appears during three short scenes in "Old Friends" and "Blessed are the Peacemakers".
