Danbury

Danbury is an American foreman employed by Cornwall Kerosene & Tar. From his office, he has access to company records that may expose an arrangement between the U.S. government, Cornwall's oil interests and Leland's oil company. The material concerns efforts to force the Wapiti Indians from their land so that the oil beneath it can be taken.

Arthur Morgan enters Danbury's office in search of those papers. He corners the foreman and beats him while demanding the information. Danbury finally admits that the files are kept in his desk and hands them over. Arthur's interrogation leaves him frightened and unable to resist as the company documents change hands.

A guard outside knocks and asks whether Danbury is all right. Arthur makes the foreman answer without raising an alarm, threatening to kill him if he warns the other guards. Danbury tells the guard that everything is fine, and Arthur jokes that his cooperation will earn him a promotion. Arthur then leaves through the window, with Danbury either left alive in the office or killed there.
