Colm O'Driscoll leads the O'Driscoll Boys, a roaming outlaw gang that has been feuding with Dutch van der Linde's people for years. Their conflict begins after Dutch kills Colm's brother and Colm kills Annabelle, Dutch's lover. Colm recruits men easily and treats them as replaceable, building a large, loosely bound force that moves through different territories. The gang includes men such as Paul, Billy and Tom. Kieran Duffy rides with them briefly before leaving their ranks.
The Van der Linde gang first encounters the O'Driscolls at Adler Ranch, where they have murdered Sadie Adler's husband and taken refuge. Dutch, Arthur Morgan and Micah Bell drive them out, and a captive reveals their intended robbery of Leviticus Cornwall's train. Dutch later raids their camp at Ewing Basin. Arthur captures Kieran, then takes him and other gang members to an O'Driscoll hideout in search of Colm. Colm is absent, but Kieran saves Arthur from the last gunman and is accepted into the Van der Linde camp.
Colm proposes a parley with Dutch, but uses it to have Arthur taken prisoner. He intends Arthur's capture to draw the Van der Linde gang into an ambush and deliver Dutch to the Pinkertons. Arthur escapes and returns to camp wounded. The O'Driscolls later seize Kieran, torture him and learn the camp's location. They send his body back on horseback before attacking, but the Van der Linde gang repels them. After Guarma, Sadie hunts them, and Arthur rescues her from an O'Driscoll pursuit near the prison where John Marston is held.
Colm is arrested near Saint Denis and condemned to hang. His men gather to free him, with a sniper positioned nearby and others concealed among the crowd. Arthur, Dutch and Sadie break up the escape plan, and Colm is hanged. Sadie kills the prisoners she and Dutch hold, then the three fight the remaining O'Driscolls and lawmen. The weakened survivors regroup at Hanging Dog Ranch under Tom. Sadie and Arthur attack the ranch, and Sadie kills Tom, the man who murdered her husband. The O'Driscoll Boys are disbanded in 1899.
Trivia
- ◆The O'Driscoll Boys in several respects resemble the real-life Dalton Gang (sometimes known as the "Dalton Boys" or "Dalton Brothers") and its successor, the larger Doolin-Dalton Gang (regarded as the original Wild Bunch, which in turn was a separate entity entirely from Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch). These 1890s-era gangs were recognized for the Irish heritage of many of their leaders and members, as well as for their violent exploits and deaths.
- ◆The O'Driscoll Boys is the only gang that simultaneously has camps and hideouts in more than one territory (West Elizabeth and New Hanover), which stands testament to the gang's large size.
- ◆They are also the only gang that cannot be encountered in the epilogue. The only exception is that they can be found in the Valentine doctor's backroom in 1907 if the player hadn’t previously robbed it.
- ◆Henchmen of the O'Driscoll Boys usually wear large black hats & coats. Ambushers often wear black face coverings.
- ◆It is possible to trigger a random encounter with the O'Driscolls in New Austin in the Epilogue. Given their disbandment in 1899, this is most likely a glitch.
- ◆They are the only gang that will incur a wanted level if their bodies are seen, this is most likely a bug.
- ◆If the player as Arthur goes fishing with Javier, Javier will discuss how they had planned to rob a coach but saw it filled with women and children and spared them. But later on, they read in the newspaper that the O’Driscolls had attacked the same coach and not only robbed it but massacred everyone in the coach.
