Player notes

John wakes at Pronghorn Ranch one morning to a disturbance outside. He finds Abe being intimidated by two Laramie Gang gunmen and their leader. The men have come onto the ranch to torment the ranch hand, and John steps in rather than leaving Abe to face them. He warns the leader to back off, but the confrontation immediately turns physical.

John trades blows with the Laramie leader in front of the ranch. He gets the better of the man and is close to finishing the fight when Abigail intervenes, pulling him away. The leader then turns his abuse on Abigail and warns John that the gang will return. The three Laramie men finally leave, telling John to pass word to Mr. Geddes that they visited.

Once the men are gone, Abigail is angry that John has fought again. He had promised her that violence was behind him, and she insists there were other ways to deal with the intruders. At Pronghorn Ranch, John is left remembering Dutch's words: "We all get caught eventually John, I guess the trick is to decide by who."

Trivia

  • โ—†The mission's image in the menu depicts John with his 1899 hairstyle, instead of the short hair he has in 1907.
  • โ—†The Laramie Gang member Fires his Cattleman Revolver at Abe's legs without needing to use the hammer, similar to a Double-Action. this is inaccurate due to the Cattleman being Single Action only.
  • โ—†It was widely speculated that the leader of Laramie gang was voiced by Steven Ogg due to him sounding similar to Grand Theft Auto V 's Trevor Philips, although he confirmed that he did not voice the character.
  • โ—†In the closing cutscene, John is seen remembering an advice from Dutch which comes from a random camp event, instead of a mission. "We all get caught eventually John, I guess the trick is to decide by who."
