Player notes

At Beecher's Hope, John Marston finds Uncle asleep instead of taking the ranch cattle to pasture. With the work neglected, John rouses him and the two men gather the herd. They ride behind the cattle and guide them out of the ranch, with Uncle helping to bring back animals that stray from the group as they head across West Elizabeth.

Beyond the road to Blackwater, explosions erupt beside the railway. Outlaws emerge to rob a passing train, and the blasts frighten the cattle into a stampede. Uncle urges John to get in front of the herd and stop it. John can remain with Uncle to turn the animals around, or leave Uncle to manage them while he rides toward the train.

If John goes to the railway, he kills the outlaws attacking the train. Its conductor thanks him for saving the train and its passengers before John rejoins Uncle. Whether John fought the robbers or stayed with the herd, the two men bring the cattle under control and drive them to their pasture southwest of Blackwater. Uncle remains with the animals.

Trivia

  • โ—†The player may kill and/or attack one or more of the Cows after the mission without any repercussions.
  • โ—†At the end of the mission, Marston tells Uncle to stay with the cattle, but Uncle replies "you had your pound of flesh from me". This references William Shakespeare's play The Merchant of Venice and the character Shylock.
  • โ—†After this mission, the cattle seem to disappear, as they don't appear back in the ranch or out in the pastures.
  • โ—†If the player chooses to not have Marston fight the bandits and help the train and stays with the herd, Uncle will say "You really have changed!".
  • โ—†During the loading screen, John is wearing his Cowboy Outfit, however, he can only wear his Rancher Outfit due to the forced outfit switch in The Outlaw's Return.
  • โ—†Keeping all the cows alive will make the player get full Fame and Honor at the end of the mission.
