Player notes
John Marston comes across Jenny, a sickly woman alone in the desert east of Ridgewood Farm in Cholla Springs. She insists that she is all right and tells him to leave her, though her condition makes that hard to believe. Jenny says her faith in God will sustain her and that she requires no help. John hesitates over whether he can simply abandon her there.
He rides to Armadillo to find medicine for Jenny. Her belief that divine help will save her does not persuade him that she can survive in the desert without assistance, and he returns to the spot where he found her. Jenny is still waiting in the open country of Cholla Springs, weakened by hunger and exposure.
John gives Jenny the medicine. She accepts it, convinced that God sent him to her, while John concludes that the heat has affected her mind. He urges her to come back to town with him, but she refuses the ride and chooses to remain where she is, trusting her faith to carry her through. John leaves Jenny in the desert.
Trivia
- โAlthough Jenny is famished and weak, pointing a gun at her will immediately cause her to scream and run away. This is a default behavior oversight.
- โIf playing as John Marston, he and Jenny soon recognize each other from the opening train ride in the mission Exodus in America. If this stranger mission is done as Jack Marston, however, a different dialogue will occur where Jack briefly asks if he'd seen Jenny before, but Jenny will reply by saying that she didn't think so. This is because only John was seen by Jenny riding in the same train out of Blackwater. She and Jack never met prior to this event.
- โIf the player begins this mission as John but does not finish it until they play as Jack, Jack will speak to Jenny as if he knows her. However, this is non-canon, since doing this means that Jenny has not changed her clothes, eaten, bathed, moved, or been discovered by anyone or anything else over the course of three years, which is not possible. However, Jenny's appearance will be the same as it was when she first appeared in 1911 even if the player begins the mission as Jack in 1914. This is most likely a gameplay oversight in not accounting for starting the mission as John and continuing the mission as Jack.
- โUpon completion of this mission, Jenny can easily be hogtied and used to get the Dastardly trophy/achievement.
- โIf the player chooses to hogtie Jenny and releases her inside the Armadillo Safehouse, she will run downstairs and sit on a stool in the saloon. If she is taken to Las Hermanas and released in the chapel, she will begin to pray, and ask Marston to leave her.
- โIf a bystander witnesses the player hogtying Jenny and manages to escape back to town to inform the law, a posse of lawmen will come after the player and shoot and kill Jenny.
- โIf one is to bring Jenny to the doctor in Armadillo, she will run to the police.
- โThe player can kill Jenny and retrieve the medicine back. They will lose honor if not wearing a bandana.
- โEven though John is shown to believe in God in both Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2, John appears in disbelief of Jenny's faith that a preternatural being will intervene for her own interests.
