Player notes
John Marston stops at a camp on the road between MacFarlane's Ranch and Armadillo, where Andrew McAllister is searching for water with a dowsing stick. McAllister says he has found a supply beneath Pleasance House, north of Armadillo, but needs its deed before he can drill there. He asks John to obtain it from the property's owner, Clyde Evans.
At Pleasance House, Evans says he will sell the deed for $200 so that he can move to Blackwater, despite his dislike of its people. John can pay for the document, or take it from Evans by force. With the deed in hand, Pleasance House becomes available to John as a safehouse.
John returns to McAllister's camp and hands over the deed. If Evans was paid, McAllister reimburses John and pays him for securing the property. If blood is on the deed, McAllister pays far less, distressed that Evans may have been harmed and noting that he has a son in Blackwater. John remains at the roadside camp where he met McAllister.
Trivia
- โIf the player hogties Evans, the game will still treat it as if the player had killed him as blood will be noticed on it.
- โThis mission can also be completed after the final gameplay mission "The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed"; doing so after this point will cause MacAllister to ask, "Did that Marston fella send you with my deed?"
- โAfter completing this mission, the player may encounter Evans' son in Blackwater when he challenges the player to a duel in revenge for murdering Clyde.
- โThe player can pay for the deed and then kill Clyde to get their money back (half of it if playing Game of the Year Edition's Hardcore Mode) plus loose change and -50 honor, but doing this will cause McAllister to notice blood on the deed.
- โThe Pleasance is available as a safehouse immediately after Marston gets its deed. The player can keep the mission unfinished and keep using it. If the player wants to complete the mission they can give MacAllister the deed, kill him and get the deed back from looting him. Doing so will result in -30 honor unless the bandana is worn. The player can also put bait down next to MacAllister, let the wild animals kill him, then loot his corpse for the deed without loss of honor.
- โTo increase Marston's honor, buy a bandana from Thieves Landing, and pay for the deed from Evans, as Marston will receive $220 for the deed from McAllister without blood on it with an increase in honor. Following this, equip the Bandana and kill McAllister to avoid losing honor while retaining the Pleasance Deed.
- โThe process of dowsing is considered to be psuedoscience, so there may not even be water underneath the house despite McAllister paying so much for it. The corpses of more dowsers appear near the house in Red Dead Redemption 2.
