Marshall Thurwell

Marshall Thurwell is an accountant from Rhodes, wanted by the State of Lemoyne for theft, fraud and evading arrest. He flees west and makes a camp in Tall Trees, within the Commonwealth of West Elizabeth. After a violent encounter with a bear, he takes shelter at Bearclaw Camp, where he remains near a ruined building and the mutilated body left outside it.

John Marston and Sadie Adler track Thurwell through Tall Trees and find him hiding at the camp. He emerges to ask whether the bear is still nearby, but Sadie identifies herself as a bounty hunter acting for Lemoyne and moves to arrest him. The bear suddenly returns, knocks John to the ground and attacks him. John drives it away with gunfire, and Sadie shoots at it as it retreats, though it escapes.

Once the danger has passed, Sadie accuses Thurwell of waiting for the bear to kill them. She knocks him unconscious, binds him and loads him onto her horse. On the road to Blackwater, rival bounty hunters try to claim Thurwell for themselves, but John kills them. Sadie takes Thurwell into the Blackwater police station and tells John that his share will be sent to the bank.
