Miss Marjorie leads a travelling side show with Bertram and Magnifico, acting as its performer, manager and keeper of the money. She treats Bertram with a maternal patience, correcting his behaviour and soothing him when he is upset. Her dealings with Magnifico are far harsher. She resents his insults, his attempts to make her look foolish during their act, and his habit of abandoning the troupe with its funds.
Arthur Morgan meets Marjorie at the Old Light Saloon in Van Horn Trading Post, where she presses Bertram to reveal where Magnifico has gone. Magnifico has disappeared, and Marjorie needs him returned for the show. Arthur agrees to help her recover the missing magician. Once Arthur finds Magnifico, Marjorie and Bertram arrive to confront him. Marjorie accuses Magnifico of running away and robbing them, while he tries to evade her anger with his tricks.
Marjorie gathers her two associates and takes the show on to Saint Denis, where they are due to appear at Théâtre Râleur. This is her last meeting with Arthur. Afterwards, he receives a letter containing $40 as his share of the Théâtre Râleur gate.
