Town Crier

Before 1907, the Sanatory Committee appoints the Town Crier to warn travellers about the cholera epidemic in Armadillo, Cholla Springs. A middle-aged American with brown hair and a handlebar moustache, he wears a battered blue jacket, a dark purple vest, brown trousers and a worn top hat. He spends his days in Armadillo sounding a bell and delivering the committee's warning.

During the epilogue, John Marston first enters Armadillo and hears the Town Crier ringing his bell through the streets. The crier announces the cholera outbreak to everyone passing through town. If John speaks with him, the man remains courteous but urges him to leave Armadillo as soon as he can. He also offers John a cholera handbill from the Sanatory Committee.

The Town Crier continues his rounds in Armadillo from morning until evening, bell in hand. When John encounters him again, he repeats his warning about the disease and tells him to keep away from the town. He remains at his post in Armadillo, working for the Sanatory Committee as the epidemic continues.
