Player notes
In Valentine, Arthur finds the twins Proetus and Acrisius arguing over Helen. Each insists that he is the braver and more devoted man, while Helen has little patience for either claim. The brothers ask Arthur to settle their first contest. They take turns showing off with their guns, and Arthur acts as the witness to their rivalry. Neither twin accepts that the other has proved anything, so the contest remains unresolved when they part.
Arthur later meets Proetus and Acrisius again as they prepare a more dangerous display for Helen. Their shooting contest has given way to a test of nerve involving barrels and fast water. One brother goes first, then the other follows, determined not to be outdone. Arthur watches their reckless attempt and helps bring the brothers safely through it. Helen still refuses to choose between them, and their competition carries on.
For their last contest, Proetus and Acrisius arrange an electrical experiment and ask Arthur to operate it. Each twin sits in the apparatus, convinced that he can endure more pain than his brother. Arthur activates the machine while Helen watches their performance. Her answer disappoints them both. With Helen leaving the pair behind, the brothers abandon their contest and remain together at the end of their strange courtship.
Trivia
- โIn "Oh, Brother I", if the player kills one of the twins, the other will say their name in shock as he and Helen look on in horror. The mission will then fail.
- โOne of the brothers hands Arthur cash at the end of "Oh, Brother I", but no amount is added to his inventory.
- โUnlike most stranger missions, when the first (or first and second) encounter is completed by Arthur and the arc is finished by John, there is no unique dialogue addressing John being a friend of Arthur's who passed. The twins will act as if they were already acquainted with John beforehand.
- โThere appears to be a bug where, during "Oh, Brother II", Proetus' and/or Acrisius' dialogue will emit from the wrong brother, while the correct brother's mouth moves.
- โIf the player kills the twins before entering "Oh, Brother I", bystanders and lawmen will ignore the crime.
- โIf "Oh, Brother I" is entered without any sidearm, the protagonist will freeze, leaving abandonment of the mission as the only option.
- โMission "Oh, Brother II" can be failed, if one of the brothers die. However, performing that is near impossible, as the player is locked out of their weapons.
- โIn the game files there is a removed ped named CS_twingroupie_02, a unused female character that was part of the mission.
- โIn Greek mythology, Acrisius and Proetus were brothers who quarreled even in their mother's womb. When their father (Abas) died, Acrisius expelled Proetus from his inheritance and became king of Argos. Proetus later returned, and Acrisius was compelled to share his kingdom with his brother by giving Tiryns to him, while he retained Argos for himself. Acrisius was the grandfather of Perseus, who would later kill him.
- โIf the player uses trainers on PC to kill Helen in "Oh Brother I", the twins will exclaim her name as she dies, and a hidden animation triggers where Proetus tries to attack the player but Acrisius holds him back, and the mission fails shortly after.
