Lasso

The Lasso is a loop of rope thrown around a target and drawn tight. In Red Dead Redemption 2, it is issued during "Old Friends" and remains available afterwards. It occupies its own equipment role rather than functioning as a conventional firearm, and it cannot be used while aboard a train. It is intended as a non-lethal restraint, although careless use can still kill a captive.

Arthur Morgan throws the Lasso by aiming at a target and must keep it held to maintain the rope. Reeling the line pulls the target closer, while releasing it lets them go. Against people, it can be used to restrain criminals and hogtie them for delivery to jail and a bounty reward. With the Lasso equipped, Arthur can also tackle or strike an NPC in melee to throw them down and tie them immediately.

The Lasso is used to catch wild horses before breaking them. A roped horse may rear as it is drawn in, but Arthur must calm it before he can mount or pat it. Deer and pronghorn can be pulled close for a knife kill at the cost of stamina, and unskinned carcasses can also be roped. Dragging a person behind a horse can trample them to death, while prolonged pressure from the rope or snagging them on objects can suffocate them.
