El Alligator está basado en el caimán americano, Alligator mississippiensis, un reptil grande de escamas verdes, cola larga, boca ancha y ojos elevados. Habita los pantanos y deltas fluviales de Bayou Nwa. El caimán americano normal y el pequeño aparecen como variantes distintas, cada una con su propia entrada del compendio, aunque pertenecen a la misma especie.
Como depredador ápice, el caimán se alimenta de peces, aves, anfibios y mamíferos. Las placas acorazadas de su cuerpo lo hacen peligroso a corta distancia, y puede matar rápidamente a una persona al atraparle el torso con las mandíbulas y sacudirla. Pese a su tamaño, los disparos de rifle pueden atravesar su piel y sus placas.
Los caimanes proporcionan Alligator Skin, Big Game Meat, Alligator Tooth y, en el caso de los pequeños, Alligator Carcass. Sus pieles, carne y dientes se usan para comida y elaboración. La piel de un caimán normal ocupa el espacio para cadáveres grandes del caballo, mientras que la de uno pequeño puede apilarse con otras pieles y su cadáver puede transportarse. Una Alligator Skin perfecta se emplea para la Alligator Ranch Cutter Saddle del Trapper.

- ◆When on land, alligators will normally bite the player's leg before performing their kill strike, allowing the player to flee. This only happens in the player walks into the alligator. If the alligator's charge mechanic is initiated, they will instantly kill the player upon catching them.
- ◆Shooting at or near an alligator when they're basking will make them flee towards water. Chasing them while they flee will make them turn around and attack. Shooting them while they're threatening the player will make them attack.
