• ◆Billy Midnight's part of the mission was significantly changed during development, and would've taken place inside the cut Annesburg saloon, which would've been owned by him and is still called "Mitternachtsbierhalle" (Midnight's Beer Hall) in the final game in reference to his real-world inspiration: Robert Ford, who was shot dead in his own saloon.
• ◆The bar carriage that Billy Midnight can be found in was originally intended for a cut mission known as "Trelawny2". Outside of this mission, bar carriages are not included as part of trains except during the mission "Just a Social Call".
• ◆Gunslinger Frank Heck was originally meant to be one of the subjects in the mission and was originally encountered in Tumbleweed, which was later changed to Saint Denis during development. His part of the mission would've involved playing a card game with him in a private room and presumably beating him, resulting in him flipping over the table and drawing two irons.
• ◆Leftover in the game files is Frank Heck's character model, a mission thumbnail, music for the mission, all of the animations, males, and a photograph of him with information that still appears off-screen when meeting Theodore Levin for the first time.
• ◆If the player starts the mission as Arthur, John can track down the gunslingers by flipping the photos of the gunslingers and reading the back. John will also tell Levin to send the money to "Jim Milton", and adds that it is not his real name, while Arthur will use the "Tacitus Kilgore" name.
• ◆When shoveling manure for Emmett Granger, a glitch can occur where a second pitchfork appears sticking out of the back of the protagonist's hand. The pitchfork remains in cutscenes and can be removed by restarting the game or dying. It does not affect any in-game play.
• ◆Alternatively, shoveling manure as John can trigger a glitch which permanently disables similar activities (mainly manure shoveling and cow milking) at his own ranch. But only if doing it in the Epilogue, Part 2 after the ranch is fully built. Any time before the mission "Uncle's Bad Day", which automatically triggers the mission "The Best of Women", that unlocks the chores, won't trigger the glitch.
• ◆In the final part, if the player rides through any body of water when going to Brandywine Drop, Slim Grant will start drowning, and after he emerges from the water, he will scream saying that he nearly drowned, to which the player will say that they saved him twice in that case.
• ◆This side mission reflects on how the stories of gunslingers were either exaggerated or fabricated in the real world.
• ◆In the case of the gunslingers encountered in-game, Jim Calloway's exploits are repeatedly said to be overblown while all of the others have been either forced into hiding by the law (Flaco and Belle), contacted the federal authorities (Emmet and Slim), or are drinking their lives away (Billy and Jim).
• ◆During Billy Midnight's mission, the player can skip the duel entirely by not following Midnight onto the roof of the wagon he stops on. After waiting for a short period of time, Billy will commit suicide.
• ◆If the player completes the mission as Arthur but does not claim the final reward before his death, then the payment can be retrieved in the epilogue as John Marston.
• ◆The unnamed deputy in the final part of the mission strand shares the same voice as Sheriff Jones, it is likely Jones was meant to be the one the player was to encounter instead of the deputy.
• ◆Even if he previously reunited with Sadie Adler and hunted bounties with her, John will wisely deny any association with any bounty hunters when Black Belle questions him.
• ◆The notes on the back of the photo of Flaco say his hideout is "W. of Colter" though his hideout at Cairn Lodge is actually eastwards.
• ◆In the introductory cutscene, Levin hands the protagonist a camera as he requests photos of the gunslingers and after the cutscene, along with the photos with notes on that he hands the protagonist, the camera also shows up at the side of the screen as though it was given as part of the mission, implying this may have originally been the intent rather than already having obtained the camera unexplained after "Eastward Bound".
