John Marston rencontre l'Étranger dans Hennigan's Stead. L'homme affirme connaître John depuis l'époque du gang Van der Linde, mais refuse d'expliquer qui il est. Il parle d'un ami qui a besoin de conseils et dirige John vers Thieves' Landing. John trouve l'homme ivre devant le saloon, sur le point de rendre visite à une prostituée malgré son épouse. Il peut l'en dissuader ou lui donner de l'argent pour qu'il aille jusqu'au bout.
Après que John a atteint Nuevo Paraíso, l'Étranger réapparaît sur la route à l'ouest de El Matadero. Il dit à John que Mother Superior Calderón, à Las Hermanas, fait face à un dilemme. Au couvent, John peut donner de l'argent à la nonne pour son œuvre ou la voler. L'attitude de l'Étranger laisse entendre qu'il sait déjà quel choix John fera.
Une fois les combats au Mexique terminés, John retrouve l'Étranger pour la troisième fois devant Beecher's Hope. L'homme parle du fait qu'il ne connaît pas son propre nom, qu'il règle des comptes et que beaucoup de gens le damnent. John insiste pour qu'il révèle son identité, mais ne reçoit aucune réponse.
En colère et déconcerté, John dégaine son arme et tire sur l'Étranger. Les balles restent sans effet. L'homme se détourne et s'éloigne, laissant John à Beecher's Hope.
Anecdotes
- ◆After speaking to the man for the second mission, he can be pushed onto the fire.
- ◆Despite the man being unharmed by John shooting at him in the final cutscene, it is still possible to kill him outside of cutscenes by simply shooting at him. This will cause the player to fail the mission and to lose honor.
- ◆When meeting the man for the last time, he will repeatedly say "this is a fine spot" as he stands to look over the ranch. This can be a foreshadow as the spot, in particular, is the final resting place of John Marston.
- ◆The nun who John can either donate to or rob is Mother Superior Calderón, who plays a supportive role in the Undead Nightmare DLC and appears in Saint Denis in Red Dead Redemption 2 in 1899.
- ◆This and Remember My Family are the only stranger missions to take place in all three areas (New Austin, Nuevo Paraíso, then West Elizabeth).
- ◆Obviously due to the missable nature of this mission, this is the only Stranger Mission that cannot be done with Jack Marston.
- ◆If John decides to rob the nun in the second part of the stranger mission, she will carry well over three hundred dollars.
