Arthur retrouve Sadie Adler à Doyle's Tavern, à Saint Denis, afin de discuter de l'emprisonnement de John Marston à Sisika Penitentiary. Sadie l'emmène hors de la ville pour rencontrer Arturo Bullard, un aéronaute qu'elle a engagé afin de surveiller la prison. Bullard accueille Arthur à bord de sa montgolfière, mais refuse d'emmener Sadie, affirmant que le vol ne convient pas aux femmes. Arthur part avec Bullard tandis que Sadie reste au sol.
Arthur contrôle l'altitude de la montgolfière tandis qu'elle traverse Lemoyne et atteint Sisika Penitentiary. Depuis les airs, il inspecte les champs de la prison et aperçoit un homme qu'il pense être John. Les gardes repèrent la montgolfière et ouvrent le feu, forçant Arthur et Bullard à monter hors de portée. Sur le chemin du retour, Bullard voit Sadie poursuivie par des O'Driscolls à travers Bluewater Marsh.
Arthur prend un fusil dans la montgolfière et tire sur les poursuivants de Sadie. Bullard est touché durant l'affrontement, puis reçoit un autre tir et tombe de la nacelle. Arthur amène la montgolfière au-dessus d'un pont, descend une corde jusqu'à Sadie et la hisse à bord. La montgolfière manque bientôt de carburant et s'écrase sur la rive de la Kamassa River.
Arthur et Sadie affrontent les O'Driscolls qui attaquent depuis l'autre côté de la rivière et les bois voisins. Une fois le gang éliminé, Arthur reproche à Sadie la mort de Bullard et sa poursuite imprudente. Elle lui demande s'il a vu John, ce qu'Arthur confirme. Sadie propose de faire évader John de Sisika Penitentiary, puis annonce à Arthur que Colm O'Driscoll a été capturé et condamné à la pendaison. Elle compte s'assurer qu'il ne s'échappe pas.
Anecdotes
- ◆Despite the fact that the mission "Money Lending and Other Sins VII" can be completed before this one, Sadie will still say "Strauss is a bundle of nerves" as if he is still a member of the gang. However, since Sadie hasn't been back to the camp since the mission "Fleeting Joy", it makes sense that she wouldn't know Strauss had been kicked out by Arthur.
- ◆Due to Arthur's sickness becoming severe, going anywhere near the area where Sadie is after "Fleeting Joy" will trigger "A Fork in the Road".
- ◆However, near the end of "The Artist's Way III", Arthur can run into the bar where "Icarus and Friends" begins, but Sadie will not be present and Arthur will then suffer his coughing fit in the bar, prompting the other patrons to flee.
- ◆If Arthur is wearing any "fancy" hat (consisting of Legendary Animal hats, the Tricorn Hat, the Exotic Hat, one of the two helmets, etc.) during the balloon ride, Bullard will comment on it and jokingly say that he likes to "stand out in the clouds".
- ◆While ascending, Arturo recounts a story of a man who had "ran afowl" of a rotten oyster mid-flight, leading to a "harrowing experience" for all involved. In the previous mission "The New South", Dutch recounts how he came across Josiah Trelawny by chance in an outhouse in some random town, who greeted Dutch with surprise and then asked for some privacy due to having eaten a rotten oyster. Due to Trelawny's highly transitory nature, this has led to a fan theory that the man who Arturo mentioned was actually Trelawny himself.
- ◆When looking for John at the Penitentiary, his location will depend on which field the player examines first. For instance, if they search the field on the right, John will be in the one on the left.
- ◆If the player fails to pull Sadie up onto the balloon, she can be seen falling from the rope to her death.
- ◆After completion, the player can loot all of the O'Driscoll's bodies as they have a lesser chance of the law coming to investigate.
