John Marston begibt sich zu MacFarlane's Ranch, um Bonnie MacFarlane zu treffen. Dort wird er ihrem Vater Drew MacFarlane vorgestellt, der sich ihnen anschließt, um wilde Pferde für die Ranch einzureiten. Bonnie gibt John ein Lasso und führt ihn und Drew hinaus nach New Austin. Sie finden ein Wildpferd, und John reitet nah genug heran, um es einzufangen, während Bonnie und Drew es zwischen sich halten. John steigt auf das Tier und zähmt es.
Drew bringt das erste Pferd fort, nachdem es gezähmt wurde. John und Bonnie fangen ein zweites Wildpferd, das John ebenfalls zähmt. Bonnie reitet mit John auf dem frisch gezähmten Pferd zurück zu MacFarlane's Ranch. Von der Ranch aus führt Bonnie ihn in Richtung Cholla Springs, wo nahe Armadillo eine größere Herde wilder Pferde unterwegs ist.
John treibt die Herde in einen Canyon, doch ein Kentucky Saddler trennt sich von den anderen Pferden. Er verfolgt den Hengst allein, fängt ihn mit dem Lasso ein und klettert auf seinen Rücken. Nachdem er den Kentucky Saddler gezähmt hat, reitet John damit zu Bonnie nach Cholla Springs.

Wissenswertes
- ◆The achievements/trophies Clemency Pays and Dastardly cannot be completed until this mission is completed, as the player only unlocks the lasso after this mission, and the lasso must be unlocked for getting these achievements/trophies. There are also some random encounters that will not spawn, and bounties cannot be turned in alive.
- ◆It is impossible to lasso the horses that you are herding until you've brought them to Bonnie and everyone else.
- ◆Although Bonnie says to drive the herd up to the canyon you only need to herd the Kentucky Saddler to the canyon.
- ◆If you herd the horses up to the side of the canyon it will sometimes think you have herded them into the canyon and you will have completed this part of the mission.
- ◆It is unnecessary to hitch the Saddler, as completing this mission will automatically overwrite and despawn Marston's primary horse. This can be particularly problematic in Hardcore mode, as it forces Marston to lose the War Horse thus requiring the $10,000 deed to be purchased in order to get the mount back.
- ◆This mission is specifically programmed to not hinder the player's progress for the achievement "Spurred to Victory", despite the player switching to a new horse.
