John Marston si reca a MacFarlane's Ranch per incontrare Bonnie MacFarlane. Qui viene presentato a suo padre, Drew MacFarlane, che si unisce a loro per domare cavalli selvaggi per il ranch. Bonnie consegna a John un lazo e guida lui e Drew verso New Austin. Trovano un cavallo selvaggio e John gli si avvicina abbastanza da prenderlo al lazo, mentre Bonnie e Drew lo tengono stretto tra loro. John monta l'animale e lo doma.
Drew porta via il primo cavallo dopo che è stato domato. John e Bonnie catturano un secondo cavallo selvaggio, e John doma anche quello. Bonnie torna a MacFarlane's Ranch in sella al cavallo appena domato insieme a John. Dal ranch, Bonnie lo conduce verso Cholla Springs, dove un branco più numeroso di cavalli selvaggi corre nei pressi di Armadillo.
John spinge il branco in un canyon, ma un Kentucky Saddler si separa dagli altri cavalli. Insegue lo stallone da solo, lo prende al lazo e gli sale in groppa. Dopo aver domato il Kentucky Saddler, John lo cavalca fino a Bonnie a Cholla Springs.

Curiosità
- ◆The achievements/trophies Clemency Pays and Dastardly cannot be completed until this mission is completed, as the player only unlocks the lasso after this mission, and the lasso must be unlocked for getting these achievements/trophies. There are also some random encounters that will not spawn, and bounties cannot be turned in alive.
- ◆It is impossible to lasso the horses that you are herding until you've brought them to Bonnie and everyone else.
- ◆Although Bonnie says to drive the herd up to the canyon you only need to herd the Kentucky Saddler to the canyon.
- ◆If you herd the horses up to the side of the canyon it will sometimes think you have herded them into the canyon and you will have completed this part of the mission.
- ◆It is unnecessary to hitch the Saddler, as completing this mission will automatically overwrite and despawn Marston's primary horse. This can be particularly problematic in Hardcore mode, as it forces Marston to lose the War Horse thus requiring the $10,000 deed to be purchased in order to get the mount back.
- ◆This mission is specifically programmed to not hinder the player's progress for the achievement "Spurred to Victory", despite the player switching to a new horse.
