Der Thoroughbred ist eine große Pferderasse der Race-Klasse in Red Dead Redemption 2. Er ist als Rennpferd gebaut, mit schlanken Beinen, einem athletischen Körperbau und einer tiefen Brust. Thoroughbreds verfügen im Vergleich zu anderen Rennpferden über starke Geschwindigkeit und Beschleunigung, während ihre Gesundheit und Ausdauer niedriger sind. Ihr Race-Handling macht sie reaktionsschnell und wendig, doch wenn sie zu stark beansprucht werden, können sie ungeschickt werden.
Die Rasse eignet sich für kurze Rennen, bei denen ihr Tempo und ihre schnelle Beschleunigung genutzt werden können. Thoroughbreds sind in Wildnis- und Durchzugsgebieten anzutreffen, bestimmte Fellvarianten können auch gekauft werden. Zu den regulären Fellvarianten zählen Blood Bay, Dapple Gray und Brindle. Der Reverse Dapple Black ist eine besondere Variante, während der Black Chestnut Thoroughbred exklusiv in Red Dead Online verfügbar ist.
Rachel ist 1907 John Marstons Thoroughbred und wird während des Epilogs zum Standardpferd. Sie hat ein einzigartiges Seal Brown-Fell. Rachel kann in einem Stall untergebracht, verkauft, umbenannt, umgestaltet und mit verbesserter Ausrüstung versehen werden, kann jedoch nicht erneut erhalten werden, falls sie verloren geht.

- ◆There is an unused Thoroughbred that was intended to be used in the mission "Enter, Pursued by a Memory", being the horse that was formerly ridden by John. This Silver Bay is very thin like the Scrawny Nags, and has the same stats as a generic Kentucky Saddler (RDR 2). There are two versions of the Silver Bay, one of which is much skinnier than the other. The stirrups on the skinny version are glitched unless the horse is being ridden and attempting to modify the components on this version of the horse will make the horse invisible. This horse cannot be stabled and will instead remove slots from the stable permanently upon attempting to do so.
- ◆It is possible to spawn all Thoroughbreds including the Silver Bay, the Black Chestnut, and the Reverse Dapple Black using the cheat codes "Run! Run! Run!" or "You want something new".
- ◆Like other unused and Online horses, if the Black Chestnut or Silver Bay is spawned into the game's story mode, the horse is undefined by the game and permanently removes slots in the stable when tamed. In addition, the horses cannot be stored in a stable or sold, and their appearance cannot be modified.
- ◆Once purchased, the Reverse Dapple Black Thoroughbred cannot be sold. If the player bonds with two horses while the horse is out or the horse dies, the player will no longer have ownership of the horse, but they can acquire a new Reverse Dapple Black Thoroughbred from the stable.
